Which spark plugs should you run in your Ecoboost Mustang?

Maybe you've read some buzz words, seen some brands you're familiar with, but don't know what plugs are the right plugs for YOUR Ecoboost Mustang. Well we've got it pretty well figured out here at Parker Performance, as your local Ecoboost Mustang Performance Experts and figured we'd share our information with you guys!

One Step Colder. NGK. Ruthenium. Iridium. Pre-gapped. What gap? Let's go ahead and get you guys educated on what's important for you to know when selecting a plug for your Ecoboost:

The OEM Stock Ecoboost Mustang is going to come equipped with a factory number 6 heat range. When we start to tune them, or add high performance modifications to them, we typically go to a one step colder spark plug, which is a heat range of 7. Not all cars need to run the one step colder plugs, and for those guys, we recommend the NGK 6509, which is the factory heat range. Yet, as mentioned before, if you're planning on tuning and/or upgrading the vehicle, we suggest going to the one-step colder plugs, like an NGK 6510 Iridium, or an NGK 95605 Ruthenium plug.

The difference between the Iridiums to the Rutheniums (for the sake of our needs) is essentially their "out of the box" gap, specifically in comparison to the gap we're going to be running. NGK recommends no more than .008" of gap adjustment from their stock settings. The 6510 Iridiums come out of the box at around .035-.036" and we take that down to .028" or .026" typically, which is as much as .010" and outside the gap recommendations from NGK. Whereas the 95605 Rutheniums are .029"-.030" out of the box, which would equate to a maximum of only .004" of gap correction. This results in better longevity for our customers, less interaction for you by having to recheck the gaps on them less frequently, etc.

For some of our higher horsepower customers, we do move them over to an even colder spark plug, which we usually supply from Brisk Racing at that time.

If you're looking for a new set of Spark Plugs, and wanting to install them yourself, take a look at our Parker Performance Maintenance Pack Installation Video where we show you the how-to's and make it nice and easy for you:

I have a 21 ecoboost mustang.
The only mods I have done are a drop in KN wet air filter and a throttle body spacer from AM. I’ve already put a new purge valve and low pressure fuel sensor on it. I even put a new purge cylinoid on the evap canister under the backend. I still get a high pressure purge line performance code. Could any of my minor mods have caused this problem. I’m looking into getting new plugs with the mods I’ve done, do I need a tune?

I have a 2016 ecoboost mustang with the following mods: K&N CAI to stock turbo and then CVF catted downpipe to mbrp street exhaust, CVF intercooler and CVF aluminum charge pipes. Currently have NGK iridum 94374 in the car but I just feel like i’ve lost power since i’ve put them in. Do you guys recommend the ruthenium’s or are these even the right plugs? Thanks!

Now with the gap what is recommended when running e30 or pump gas?

Juan

Well, I’m a bit confused. I contacted PP about plugs for my Eco.It was recommended to go with the Iridium’s, I ordered and installed them. Now the recommendation is Ruthenium’s?
