When you Google “How much does a Mustang EcoBoost weigh” you’ll get anything from 3300-3700 but is this true and accurate for those who have modified and not necessarily thought about weight reduction?
We had the same question, so we went and looked for answers. We took our (2) full bolt-on Mustang EcoBoost to get weighed and we were a bit surprised.
The Mustang EcoBoost is known to be lighter than its big brother, Mustang GT. This makes the EcoBoost Mustang lighter on its feet, easier to brake and much much lighter when taking turns. Realistically, the only thing missing is the power. Luckily, that’s what we’re good at.
Both of these cars are FBO (Full Bolt-On) which include: Full downpipe and exhaust, intercooler and charge pipes, along with aftermarket intakes and a turbo upgrade. All of these mods paired with a tune allow these EcoBoost Mustangs to develop loads of torque to make it a true competitor when racing.

Top Five Modifications to the EcoBoost Mustang by Parker Performance
OUR CARS: *Sticker weight: no fluids*
2017 Mustang EcoBoost MT Base PP -Sticker weight 3,450 lbs
2020 Mustang EcoBoost 10r80 Base -Sticker weight 3,428 lbs
Let’s start with Youssef’s 2020 Mustang EB: Sticker Weight 3,428lbs
Youssef’s 2020 EcoBoost is setup for racing. Whether it’s roll racing or drag racing this EcoBoost is made to do one job, get out in front first. He’s partially gutted his interior leaving only the important things, his driver seat and dash. No rear or passenger seats, no plastic trims, no carpet, no nothing. We believe this “weight savings” has been a big reason why this little 4Banger has the ability to launch itself like a rocket from SpaceX.
His EcoBoost is equipped with the Parker Performance Tornado Kit (Race Intercooler, Charge pipes and BOV) Along with a unique exhaust setup, CVF Catted downpipe paired with the CP-E Race Single Exit Exhaust System. He’s also rocking a set of BMR drag springs with a few tweaks to the suspension. His rear valance is gone allowing you to see his entire rear setup and we can’t forget about the radials.
When weighed, this EcoBoost came out to 3,460lbs with a full tank of gas (130lb) Now, when we deduct the full tank of gas (16gal) the net weight of the car is 3,330lbs JUST shy of breaking into the 3,200lbs. That’s a savings of over 100lbs! NOT BAD AT ALL considering the heavier Race Intercooler.
Youssef’s next goal will be to get it down into the 3,100s and for that we'll be looking into a BMR tubular K-member and removing the sway bars.
Now onto Rick’s 2017 Mustang EB: Sticker Weight 3,450lbs
Rick’s MT EcoBoost Mustang is as fun and raw as they come. Made to be a sleeper, this full weight EBM has not yet lived up to it’s expectations but all of that is about to change.
This EcoBoost Mustang is also FBO (Full Bolt-On) with the Parker Performance Tornado Kit, a complete turbo-back Cobb stainless steel exhaust system and also sitting on a set of BMR drag springs. This car however, has full interior and 0 intentional weight savings mods (unless you count cloth seats as weigh savings LOL). This thing is also sitting on pretty hefty wheels.
When weighed, this EcoBoost came out to 3,700lbs with Youssef in it (140lb) and an empty tank.
Now, when we deduct Youssef’s weight (140lbs) our new net weight is 3,560lbs. That’s an extra 110lbs up from stock, but we can bare it. Is it a deal breaker? NOT AT ALL. Given the current comfort setup and 0 weight savings attempted, we’re sure that we can get it down to at least 3,400 if we wanted to putting both of these cars AT LEAST 4-600lbs lighter than their fat brother, Mustang GT.
The purpose of this “experiment” is for us to have an accurate weight of a modded Mustang EcoBoost and not just a stock one. And even further than that, one car with decent weight reduction done to it and the other absolutely nothing.
FINAL NUMBERS:
Youssef’s: 3,330lbs w/o gas 3,460lbs w/gas
Rick’s: 3,560lbs w/o gas 3,690 w/gas
Here's a breakdown we found on a Reddit thread that might help you visualize where YOU stand in the weight savings game:
Between 2800-3100lbs (1270-1405kg) as fairly light. Between 3100-3400lbs (1405-1540kg) as decent. Between 3400-3700 (1540-1680kg) as acceptable. Between 3700-4000 (1680-1815kg) as heavy- REDDIT
