What oil should I run in my EcoBoost Mustang? Which oil should I use in my Coyote Mustang?

What oil should I run in my EcoBoost Mustang? Which oil should I use in my Coyote Mustang?

We get this question a lot & the answer really isn't all that simple. How do you drive the car? What are you performance oriented goals w/the car? What kind of climate are you living in? What kind of service intervals do you follow? What kind of fuel do you run (IE: 93 vs Ethanol)? So let's see what oil you should run!!

There's really never just a blanket "one size fits all" solution to our customer's questions like this.

BUT!!!

We have done our best to help educate and empower our customers to at least make a better decision with more information than maybe they would've gained by just posing the question as their first introductory post into every Facebook group, lmfao.

So for starters, we primarily recommend, suggest & use Liqui-Moly products here at Parker Performance. There's a lot of different reasons behind this, so let's dive into those now, so you can understand we're not just mouth-piecing a product to sell it to you guys!!!

Liqui-Moly is a brand that is founded in the roots of Germany. Still to this day, all their development & manufacturing is done on their home soil there in Germany. And with our previous Sales Manager, Alex Sanders, having been born and raised in Germany... he had always followed Liqui-Moly, knew of the brand, knew of their uncompromising efforts, rigorous testing, etc. So this was a brand that Sanders brought to the table as an option for us when we were seeking out a new vendor partner with our company here stateside. After hearing his understanding of what they brought to the table for their Motorsports Teams, their Vendor Partners, etc. we felt like it was a good fit for us as a company, but would their products match up for us?

Once we reached out to Liqui-Moly, they didn't just accept our application and then we blindly started recommending their products to our customers. No. In fact, we didn't even mention our involvement w/their company until we'd already tested several of their products in several different vehicles here at the shop. The team at Liqui-Moly sent over a Sales Rep that brought us a ton of educational materials, brought us up to speed on what they do as a brand and as a company to help ensure their Motorsports Racing Teams have uncompromised lubrication, and ultimately handed us a couple of products to test in our very own cars. We started with their Leichtlauf 5w40 and tested that at The Firm in our FBO Ecoboost Mustangs. We then moved to the Molygen lineup of products, which we tested in several FBO Ecoboost Mustangs, as well as a blower 5.0L Coyote F150, and a blower 5.0L Mustang as well. Then they gave us several different additives to test, such as the Ceratec product, which is widely known to help combat the troublesome "Coyote Tick" found in the 5.0L GT Mustangs and F150s.

We're not scientists, but we've had great experiences in the utilization of these products in our own vehicles, and therefore felt comfortable bringing them to market for our consumers! And with having worked together with our Florida Sales Rep Team, we've come up with what we feel are the best solutions for what oil you should run in your Ecoboost Mustang or Coyote Mustangs!

So finally, let's specifically answer your question: "What oil should I run in my Ecoboost Mustang?" Or even, "Which oil should I run in my Coyote Mustang?"

*Please Note: these recommendations may change based on your climate; we're basing these on our Florida-based business, where the temperatures are very hot & humid for most of the year*

Street Cars - 93 Octane - Only Minor Bolt-on Upgrades:

Liqui-Moly Molygen 5w30 Fully Synthetic Oil is the go to for our customers who are running 93 Octane and with only minor bolt on upgrades for their cars. Specifically, we don't want to see our customers only using a 30 weight oil, when they're going to a Road Race Event, or a Drag Race Event, for instance. The oil is too thin for those uses, and it will break down much sooner, than it's heavier weight counterparts (5w40, 5w50).

Street Cars - Full Bolt-on Upgrades or using any Ethanol Blended Fuels:

Liqui-Moly Molygen 5w40 Fully Synthetic Oil is our go to for our customer cars that are Full Bolt On (FBO) and/or if they're running any blended variant of Ethanol as their main fueling, such as E30. We find that the added power of being FBO, and/or the use of Ethanol tends to break down the oil a bit sooner, than a 93 octane car w/minor bolt on upgrades, therefore we step up to the 40 weight product.

Boosted Coyotes, Drag Cars or Road Race Cars:

With the cars that are going to see a large amount of abuse, especially if going to a specific event, such as a Drag Race Event, Half Mile Event, Road Race Event, then either the Leichtlauf High Tech 5w40 or Liqui-Moly Molygen 5w50 Fully Synthetic Oil is our weapon of choice. For our boosted big brother Coyote customers, we suggest the 5w40 at a minimum, but typically would jump up to the Liqui-Moly Molygen 5w50 Fully Synthetic Oil. If you're planning a specific event, and can't get your hands on the Molygen, the Leichtlauf High Tech is a great alternative. We've tested these in each of these scenarios with great results.

As always, we only use and recommend the Ford Motorcraft Oil Filters. For our GT customers, we always use the Ford Motorcraft FL500S Oil Filter. For our Ecoboost customers, we always run the Ford Motorcraft FL400S Oil Filter, as they have a slightly larger capacity than the FL910S filter does, and are from the OEM Manufacturer.

Coyote Guys - grab yourself a pair of the Ceratec bottles for your first oil change, and then again in your every 3rd oil change thereafter. For added protection on those in-between oil changes, we suggest running the MOS2 additive. Especially if you've experienced some Coyote Tick previously. Most of the time, the Coyote Tick will go away by increasing the weight from a 5w20 to a 5w30 (or higher), but in the event that alone hasn't solved it, we find the Ceratec has certainly helped.

Ecoboosters - We typically suggest running one bottle of the Liqui-Moly Ceratec in your first oil change, and then again in your every 3rd oil change thereafter. For added protection on those in-between oil changes, we suggest running the MOS2 additive.

Ultimately, you need to find what's going to work best for you and your goals. There are some really great products on the market, and you're likely to be hard-pressed to find any real "issues" with the majority of the full synthetic brands from the larger, well-respected oil manufacturers. We've had success previously with other quality oils such as Pennzoil Platinum, Amsoil Signature Series, and even Shell Rotella T6. Make your own choice, and if we can help you purchase your desired quality oils, please let us know!
